Spectral Time – Transforms sound into partials and feeds them into a frequency-based delay, resulting in metallic echoes, frequency-shifted and reverb-like effects. Spectral Resonator – Breaks the spectrum of an incoming audio signal into partials, then stretches, shifts and blurs the result by a frequency or a note in subtle or radical ways. New devices: Hybrid Reverb – Combines convolution and algorithmic reverbs, making it possible to create any space, from accurate real-life environments to those that defy physical reality. Collection #1 was released on April 28, 2015, costing $9.99 for one version and $14.19 for both.Ledge drop bair, would clash with the lloid in which it might not be a good trade for them.Costumes and characters are sold packed together in bundles. Jump, you either hit them on the way up, or on the way down. If they stay on the ledge, slow ride until invincibility wears off and they get hit, standard get up, might get hit. Other uses: i guess you jump off stage and ride the lloid toward the stage to catch ledge options ( usefull if youve gone off stage to edge guard and ride lloid to recover) (Imagine, customs are on and you combo counter sapling into ridden lloid) And if they dont tech, the options above stil become valid. Tech in place, lloid hits them, back tech roll lloid hits them, forward tech roll, may miss, but if you start riding the lloid at a certain distance, you can hit them as they roll toward you. You can also catch air dodges into the ground, and even techs. Thier best option would be to roll forward, to which you can bait out sometimes by not riding the lloid, to which all options above repeat, except you have even more options to punish. If they do standard get up, lloid hits, if they roll back, lloid hits, sometimes if they get up attack, loid either hits, gets destroyed, or clashes and you pass right through leaving them unharmed. If they are on the ground (as in tripped), riding the lloid limits thier options. I find certain situations in which riding the lloid is most usefull: Watching videos of good Villagers and what they do against certain characters/in certain situations is also helpful because you get concrete examples. I don't have much trouble doing it, but it's just about mixing up you options, really. I personally find Villager to be amazing with recovery, both returning to the stage, and from the ledge onto the stage, since he just has so many options. Be wary of characters who can punish you with a Dsmahs or Dtilt when you don't have your invincibility. Stalling by jumping back and forth from the ledge is great, because you can more effectively surprise them by randomly getting up, or wait for a good opportunity (ex. If they wait at the edge of the ledge (lol), you can roll on it and run away, run and Ftilt back towards them, or jump and Dair. This is especially safe if they like to stand a little further from the ledge while waiting for you. Once you do it, you can immediatly jab/Ftilt (both are really fast), or spot dodge/shield (depending on if they usually go for a grab or for an attack when you getup). If the opponent in near the ledge, and you time it well, it can also damage them.Ī standard gettup (pressing forward while hanging on the ledge) is always a solid option. If you play with customs, the Extreme Ballon Trip is amazing, because you're less gimpable you can throw a hitbox if you want to, and have access to a sudden jump by releasing the two ballons. Similarly to Lloids, it forces them to do react, and if they don't, you get damage on them and a free return to stage. I know zee does it a lot, and it's a great option. You can jump from the ledge and Fair/Bair as you immediately head towards the stage. Don't do it against characters with reflectors though, because it's a free kill for them. You can also play mindgames with it by adjusting the speed. It's easily punishable, but if you do it randomly from time to time (like, once in a couple of matches/sets), it can really catch people off guard, and if it hits, it hits hard. While they're doing this, they can't punish you, so a well placed Lloid is pretty useful. They either roll, spot dodge, shield, or jump. Lloid is great to help you recover, it forces them to do something. From what you're saying, it looks like you do mix everything up, and you know your options, so it seems to be a 50/50. Colours are used sparingly and sprites are simple, but it’s this stylized look that makes the game so expressive and this world feel so full of life. The final piece of Burly Men at Sea ’s picture book approach is a gorgeous, minimalist art style. It is probably not a very good cave.’ Elsewhere, on another adventure: “OR MAYBE I WILL FETCH THREE! Rumbling happily to itself, the geological oddity thunders away.” This,’ he continues, ‘is a cave I have found. ‘One does not simply sail into the afterlife. It’s penned in a third-person prose that you don’t often see in games, allowing for particularly vivid storytelling that’s irreverently charming. In fact, start to finish, Burly Men at Sea is a lovely, funny game from start to finish, thanks in no small part to excellent writing. Folks will remember meeting you on previous adventures, too, leading to some lovely, often funny moments. When you pick a path you’ve taken previously, a more concise and slightly different version of that event will play out. When you get to the end, you’ll find your way back to the village again, ready to set off on a new adventure.īurly Men at Sea elegantly avoids the common visual novel problem of having to skip through scenes you’ve already seen to get to the branches you haven’t followed yet. You’ll encounter mermaids, dragons, nymphs, maelstroms, and benevolent seals, among other weird and wonderful creatures. You may run into a golem-like giant made of rock who, like a well-meaning dog with no awareness of his surroundings, insists on bringing you “flowers” that are actually uprooted trees. The adventures themselves are varied and utterly delightful. Like I said, it’s a picture book in video game form. It’s a structure that’s perfect for playing just before going to bed, or to just take a break from the world for a bit and get lost in an adventure. A simple branching narrative structure leads to 12 different possible adventures, each taking half an hour or so to run through. I say “first adventure” because Burly Men at Sea is a game made for repeated playthroughs, each designed to be played in a single sitting. On my first adventure, my beards escaped through the whale’s blowhole, found themselves held captive by a masked assailant after losing a race, and then fled into the night when he wasn’t looking, before finally winding up back in the little fishing village I’d departed from. Soon after setting sail they’re swallowed, boat and all, by a giant whale, and what happens after that is up to you. It’s a wonderful thing.īased loosely on Scandinavian folklore, Burly Men at Sea follows the adventures of three beardly fishermen: Brave Beard, Hasty Beard, and Steady Beard – as they set off into the unknown seas in search of adventure. It’s a game you can play just before going to bed to lull you into a peaceful sleep with dreams full of adventure. Rather, I mean that it quite brilliantly captures the calm, simple sense of wonderment found in the likes of Where the Wild Things Are and the works of Dr Seuss. I don’t mean that it’s a visual novel, in the sense of a mechanics-derived game genre – though I guess it is that, too. Burly Men at Sea is a picture book in video game form. My system is running OS 10.10.2 and Adobe CS5. I wonder if there's colour profile mis-match, or that the iPad screen quality is not as good. In short, use a cable connection.Ĭolours are duller on the iPad though. However, if you're mirroring with wifi, then the image quality is not as good and there's some lag on the iPad trying to catch up with what the Mac is showing. What you see on the iPad is as sharp as what you see on the Mac's monitor. The image quality of the mirroring is excellent. I can't say the same thing with the Wacom Bamboo Paper's frequent disconnection - shame on you Wacom again! The palm rejection technology in this app works way better than Wacom's own Bamboo Paper app - shame on you Wacom!ĭisconnection with the stylus is rare. With the right stylus, you can lay your palm on screen and the iPad will only register what you draw with the stylus. Those magenta preview lines are fantastic and make you feel as though there's no lag while drawing.Īstropad supports palm rejection technology. Even when there's lag, you'll still see your strokes coming out in the form of magenta-coloured lines. I'm using a Mac Pro connected to the iPad Air with a lightning-USB cable and there's very minimal lag while drawing. On Astropad iPad app, there are only three settings, to adjust the screen brightness, choose whether or not you want to show a magenta-coloured line preview (useful when system lags) and the amount of lag when drawing. Stylus button can also be mapped to keyboard buttons or functions. You can change keyboard button associated via settings on the Mac's Astropad app. For example when you click the Brush button, you're actually clicking the B keyboard button. The customisable shortcut buttons are mapped to keyboard buttons actually. Or you can also map the whole desktop (fullscreen) onto your iPad, but then everything will look smaller of course since you're mapping your large monitor screen onto the small iPad screen. You pinch and zoom with your fingers to determine the area. Say you're using a large 27-inch monitor, and you might just want to map the top left area onto the iPad. Screen Mapping mode allows you to map what you see on your monitor onto the iPad. It's good to see that the cute Pencil from FiftyThree will be supported in the future also. Astropad current supports pressure-sensitive styluses from Wacom, Adonit and Hex3 Jaja. You'll be asked to setup your stylus first. Setup is guided and simple to follow along. If you don't want any lag, use the USB cable. That connection can be either through wi-fi (slow) or cable (fast). These two apps will connect to each other and make the iPad mirror the Mac's desktop. What do you need?Īstropad comes with two apps, one for the iPad and one for the Mac. Performance of the app exceeds my expectations but there are also some bugs. I am not kidding you!Ĭheck out this trailer video from Astropad: You can also think of Astropad as turning your iPad into a Wacom Cintiq, or other pen display tablet monitors. I’ve been experimenting a bit with Final NotePad (runs on Windows or Mac) and think it’s quite good. Unfortunately, there aren’t many good free programs, especially ones with a friendly graphical user interface. It’s much easier to share and duplicate a digital file than messy scribbles. But what if you’re serious or good enough to want to share your music? (Ahem, I’m not, but I still looked into it anyway :D) There are some good software programs that enable you to create sheet music digitally. The few times that I’ve tried to compose or transcribe music for the piano, I’ve always written on blank staff paper.
